Frequently Asked Questions
Connections Recovery Café is a program located in Colville, WA, designed to address the growing need for recovery support in our rural northeast Washington community. The Café provides a safe and sober space where individuals committed to overcoming addiction can find peer support, compassionate accountability, community and connections, and resources to support long-term recovery. The Café operates as part of a proven national network of Recovery Cafés that emphasizes connection, resilience, and empowerment.
What is the Recovery Café, and what is it not?
Connections Recovery Café is a community-based program through Rural Resources Community Action (RRCA) that complements existing services for individuals in recovery. It is not a treatment center or crisis shelter but a resource for those who have already made the commitment to sobriety. The Café focuses on peer support, mentorship, and providing access to essential resources that sustain recovery over time.
Who does the Recovery Café serve?
The Café serves adults committed to recovery from addiction or substance use disorder. Members are required to be sober (24 hours free of drugs or alcohol) to participate in programs, maintaining a safe and supportive environment for everyone involved.
How does the clubhouse model work?
The clubhouse model is an evidence-based approach that combines peer-to-peer support, structured group activities, and shared meals to build community and accountability. This model has been shown to improve recovery outcomes, strengthen resilience, and reduce rates of relapse.
I want to become a member. What do I need to know?
Membership is open to individuals dedicated to sobriety and personal growth. Members must commit to remaining sober (24 hours drug- and alcohol-free) and actively participating in Café programs, which include recovery-related assistance, weekly group meetings, communal lunches, classes, and other activities.
Can I come to the Café if I’m not a member?
We welcome any individual who would like to visit and see what the Cafe is all about. We do not require membership to spend time in the Cafe but ask that repeat visitors consider becoming a member in order to fully benefit from all that the Cafe has to offer. The Café is designed primarily for its members, and so non-member visitors are asked to respect membership agreements and consider their own role in the Cafe community. The Cafe is not intended for public use but select events such as open houses or community information sessions may be open to the broader public to promote awareness and promote community involvement.
What makes the Café model effective?
Decades of research demonstrate that peer support is a critical predictor of sustained recovery and reduced relapse rates. The Café model leverages this through structured, ongoing support that empowers individuals to rebuild their lives, resulting in healthier individuals, families, and communities. You can learn more about the nationally recognized model of support here.
